From 17 December to 23 December 2022 Tomsk State Philharmonic Society with the help of Russian Foundation of Culture is realizing the project of international open master classes in symphony orchestra conducting on the basis of Tomsk Academic Symphony Orchestra in Tomsk region.
Generalities
Master classes will be given by people’s artist of Russia, professor of Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatoire and Russian State Kossygin University, artistic director and chief conductor of Tomsk Academic Symphony Orchestra, Vladimir Ponkin.
Assistant – associate professor of the chair of opera and symphony conducting and chief conductor of Symphony orchestra of Russian State Kossygin University, Igor Berendeev.
Duration of the master classes is 7 days following the agenda:
17 December — official Opening of the master classes
18 December -19 December — Working with two accompanists (30 minutes session for each participant)
20 December – 22 December 2022 – Working with symphony orchestra (40 minutes session, minimum for each participant)
20 December – 22 December 2022 – Working with symphony orchestra (40 minutes session, maximum for each participant)
23 December 2022 – Gala-concert of participants in the Grand Concert Hall of Tomsk State Philharmonic Society, presentation with diplomas.
Photographing and filming will take place during the master classes.
The Gala-concert and part of the master classes will be streamed online on electronic resources of Tomsk State Philharmonic Society.
A documentary will also be produced basing on the results of the master-classes.
The given letter of information is provided by attachment of the list of the works of music which will be considered and worked through with the participants (Attachment№ 1). The works of music will be chosen for each participant by the maestro, considering participants’ wishes as well.
Requirements for master class participation
The individuals eligible to participate in the master classes must have higher education in music and experience in symphony orchestra conducting. There are no age restrictions.
Prospective participants have to submit their short biography, high quality photo (jpg format, more than 300kb), link to their video and filled and signed forms of agreement for processing of their personal data and use of photo and video materials with their participation (attachment № 2) to the e-mail of the organizing committee (tomsk-filarmoniya@gov70.ru) and file an application for participation in the master class not later than 10 December 2022. The application can be filed online only, through the website of the Tomsk State Philharmonic Society tomskfil.ru, title «Projects», «International Open Master classes in symphony orchestra conducting».
Video recordings requirements: the video must be made from the front camera, the video’s duration has to be about 5-10 minutes, there are no restrictions for the program. Video recording is to be presented as a web-link (the participants themselves are responsible for the operability of the link), the work of music may be performed either with an orchestra or with two pianos.
All the sent documents considered, 12 active master class participants will be selected.
After two days’ work (with the two accompanists) 8 individuals of the 12 will be selected to work with the orchestra and take part in the gala-concert in the Grand Concert Hall of Tomsk State Philharmonic Society.
The number of passive listeners of the master classes is not limited.
The results of the master classes
All active participants will get a certificate and a diploma signed by maestro Vladimir Ponkin.
All the participants can get their photo and video materials at the request.
Passive listeners also have a right to obtain a certificate after listening to the whole course (6 days) and filing an application on the philharmonic web-site.
Terms of participation
The participation in the master class is free.
The participants bear the transport costs to Tomsk and back, and the cost of accommodation. The organizing committee will render assistance in accommodation and catering.
